In talking with Gerald Rickenbaker Ulmer he told me about the day that Uncle Charlie was killed by a horse. Gerald said that he was only 4 years old, but that he spent a great deal of time with Uncle Charlie and that he was Uncle Charlie's "pet". Uncle Charlie had taken him with him to Uncle John's house and that they hear the noise of a car coming down the road. In those days a car was a big deal and an exciting thing. They had gone out front to see it and the horses had become agitated by the noise. Uncle Charlie attempted to calm them and was kicked in the stomach by one. They carried him in the house but, there was nothing that could be done and he died a few hours later. Gerald also stated that the car was a Maxwell.
